It’s Your Life, and You’re Invited!

It’s Your Life, and You’re Invited!

Whether you are conscious of it or not, your life is a spiritual journey. If you spend all your years chasing fame, money, status and recognition, it’s still a spiritual journey. If you spend your time hating, judging, and inflicting cruelty, it’s still a spiritual journey.   Most of us spend a good deal of our lives unaware of our enormous potential. We may put forth great effort to achieve or acquire what we think will bring happiness, all the while ignorant of our true power, the Divinity that resides within.   Regardless of what we choose to chase in life, I believe we all feel, at least at times, a universal longing. We may experience it differently, or interpret it differently, but at it’s core it whispers to all of us:   “There is something more to life than what you are currently experiencing.”   We all have an intuitive knowing that another state of consciousness exists, even if we can’t conceive of what that might be like. And we all have a choice. We don’t have to respond with an unqualified “YES!” It won’t make us any better or more worthy than those who say “no.” But the longing that resides in every heart is there to remind us that it is possible to create a rich, fulfilling life far beyond our wildest dreams. The longing is there to invite us to the most meaningful journey we can embark on in this lifetime.   If we choose to say “yes,” we are choosing to commit to consciously walking a spiritual path. We are choosing to live our...
Falling From the Self – Care Superwoman Pedestal

Falling From the Self – Care Superwoman Pedestal

Early in my recovery from co-dependency, I remember someone suggesting I should shift the focus from taking care of others to taking care of myself. At the time, that seemed like an almost impossible order. What did I like to do? What did I need? What did I want?  Where would I find the time to do it? Would I be selfish to put myself first? I hadn’t a clue.    Baby steps led to long strides, which led to giant leaps, and I discovered it was pretty exciting to explore what my needs and desires were, and it felt pretty bold to meet them. I loved it.   Fast forward to today. I do a pretty good job of being self-responsible and taking care of my needs, and as a result I have for the most part created a life full of purpose and meaning, one that is sourced from a full cup overflowing. Even with the ups and downs of daily life, the days of martyrdom are just a past life memory.   But recently I found myself overextended. Overcommitted. Depleted. Exhausted. In a way that I haven’t felt in years.   Oops! I thought I had that self-care thing down pat. I thought I had learned to set boundaries where appropriate, say no without guilt, to stay centered in myself. I thought I had learned that I could give to others while still taking care of myself. How in the world did I not see this coming until it was too late?   Now I could beat myself up for not recognizing I had fallen into...
Living “Awake and Alive” at Sevenoaks Retreat Center

Living “Awake and Alive” at Sevenoaks Retreat Center

Something very special happens when you drive onto the property at Sevenoaks Retreat Center. Winding down the long gravel driveway, I always feel like I am arriving home. Sevenoaks is my spiritual home. The land here has been called “spiritually seasoned,” as the center has been home to spiritual transformation and healing for over 40 years.    Whenever I am here, the healing energy of the land at Sevenoaks is palpable. Hiking to the river, walking the medicine wheel, taking in the view of the mountains, or meditating in the little sanctuary, peace is everywhere.   Over the years that I have been coming to Sevenoaks, there have been many weekends full of laughter, joy, and celebration, while others have been painful and challenging, but wherever I have been in my process, I have always been met with a love and acceptance that fostered deep healing. So it is always exciting for me to share the Pathwork and the beauty of Sevenoaks with others when we host our bi-annual Pathwork Community Weekends.   I love waking up to a hot cup of coffee and a view of the lovely campus. I love walking the grounds at night, marveling at the silence and the Milky Way sparkling above me. I love connecting with my spiritual brothers and sisters who have known the best and the worst of me, and share my commitment to bringing these teachings to others. And, most of all, I love watching new people experience the magic of the Pathwork community for the first time.     Through their eyes, I re-live that magic I first discovered...
